Another blogger whom I like to read who is also an airship fan.

I expect you have already come across it, but just to insure you don't miss out, be sure to read "Slide Rule" by Nevil Shute (iorway). It has some interesting insights into the building and testing of the R-100 and an explanation of calculating stresses in her girders that any mathematician ought to love.

You can't beat first hand experiences from an actual engineer on the project, there is certainly a dearth of literature on the subject written by folks who understood the technology, rather than the politics.

It's a shame Shute is mostly only known in the US as the author of "On the Beach", a terrible book he must have written while in severe need of anti-depressants. He was a much more rounded and interesting man.

There's some good airship info on his fan site, http://www.nevilshute.org

Up ShipDave Starrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05853160665847969116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-431515400045975752.post-42155797160037065582010-05-06T15:58:11.774-07:002010-05-06T15:58:11.774-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Dave Starrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05853160665847969116noreply@blogger.com
